Happy birthday Modern Life is Rubbish, the first great Blur album. Probably in my top 3.

The Vår album is released next week, and here’s another track off it. It’s still very compelling, martial drumming and frantic acoustic guitar. Also, Elias sounds even more like Robert Smith now.
Ok this is a weird thing. Read this article for more info, but in a nutshell, it’s a cover of a 1963 Lee Hazlewood album by an American living in Norway, Charles Normal. What’s pretty interesting there is that he drafted a nice team of guest musicians/vocalists, including Black Francis, Eddie Argos, Dandy Warhols, Pete Yorn or Modest Mouse’s Isaac Brock who sings this one.

I Is Another is Jonah Matranga (onelinedrawing, New End Original, Far, Gratitude) and Ian Love (Rival Schools, Cardia). The album’s out next month, here’s a rocking track off it.

Great Thunder is Katie Crutchfield, who’s made one of the best albums of 2013 as Waxahatchee and her drummer/boyfriend Keith Spencer. This is 90s-oriented lo-fi indie rock, what’s not to like? AND there’s a cover of Fade Into You.
(also the fact they’re listed as brother/sister on Facebook makes me chucke)

Here’s the Dave Sitek-produced comeback single from Kelis. I posted it earlier but it got removed, this comes from the official Soundcloud.
The most awaited debut album of the year, and it didn’t disappoint a bit. Extremely powerful and meaningful.

This went under everyone’s radar, but Rivers Cuomo released an album in Japanese. It might actually be the best thing he’s done for a long time, and it’s also a pretty good way to practice your kana and learn Japanese.

Does what it says on the tin.
From the “I Love the 90s” dept., here are Smith Westerns.
